Exercising in L.A.

People who are shelling out the dough to attend a fitness retreat often do so because it is held in a location with a better climate than their own. After all, if you’re going to work hard to lose weight, why not do so in a beautiful setting? Areas like Hawaii or California are more temperate throughout the year than most other locations in the country, making them ideal for a getaway focused on getting you into shape.

But what about those who already live in the areas where people flock to summer weight loss camps? For those looking to lose weight in Los Angeles without the benefit of a boot camp-style program, they may find that their options are more limited. The urban sprawl isn’t exactly hospitable to pedestrians and bikers, depending on where you live.  Many people find that going to the gym can be less than inspiring.

Luckily, if you’re trying to create your own LA weight loss program, there are some solutions. Griffith Park is a wonderful place to go hiking, with over 30 miles of trails for visitors to explore.  For a real workout, try hiking up to the famous Griffith Park Observatory.  The canyons are also a great place for hiking. If you’re willing to drive a bit, why not head down to the beach for a nice walk?
